In and Around Manchester
Manchester is a large commercial city that can give its inhabitants and visitors alike a seemingly endless roll of activities that can both entertain and educate. The world's most famous sporting enterprise offers guided tours around its Old Trafford facilities and entrance to the Manchester United Museum. The well-established Museum of Science and Industry offers many exciting and interactive exhibits for the whole family. The city is also home to the (Emily) Pankhurst Centre celebrating the life of the woman who changed the lives of so many women around the world. Manchester Jewish Museum looks at all aspects of Jewish life in the city and beyond. There are also a multitude of high-quality galleries including Manchester Art Gallery and Whitworth Art Gallery. Urbis is a unique exhibition centre that also houses the Hacienda Museum dedicated to the nightclub that spawned a generation's musical tastes. Scattered around the city are multiple natural attractions that include Dunham Massey Hall Park and Garden in the affluent southern edge of the city. The National Trusts Lyme Park at Disley and Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens. As well as the stunning Chatsworth Hall and it's seemingly endless gardens. Back in the city, there are a multitude of night-time entertainment options including some of the country's best nightclubs and bars. As well as fine dining and great hidden away restaurants as well as the city centres Chinatown with it is dozens of Chinese eating places and the 'Curry Mile' just outside of the city which offers dozens more Indian and other Asian eateries. The city is also home to more than its fair share of theatres offering a wide selection of plays, Opera, ballet musicals and all kinds of concerts. From the avant guard Contact Theatre located at the city's university to the venue for the premiere of many famous plays the Palace Theatre. The Royal Exchange Theatre is ranked as one of the most unusual theatre settings in the world suspended from the marble columns of the old exchange building. Massive concerts by the world's top artists can be found at the Manchester Evening News Arena. If something more classical suits your tastes then there is the Royal Northern College of Music or the BBC Philemon Orchestra.
